What Paramedics Are Being Paid Around the World

Thinking of Working Abroad?

Paramedics and EMTs have some of the most valuable skills that can be easily transferred around the world. If you decide that this is the path for you, you should know what the average rate of pay is, so you can decide if it is really going to be financially feasible for you. Some of the most common countries to work as a paramedic are Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore, and New Zealand.

Canada

In Canada, the field of paramedics is regulated provincially, so the exact amount that you will be paid is going to be different in each province. The lowest average wage per hour is in Prince Edward Island, where paramedics make $22 per hour. The highest income is in the Kitchener/Waterloo/Barrie sections of Ontario, where you can make $35.14 per hour. The average income for paramedics in Canada is $43,000.

United States

The average pay for a paramedic in the United States will be highly dependent on several factors, including the company you work for, the location of the service, your previous experience, and the level of education you have. After taking all of these factors in to consideration, the average income for an American paramedic is between $29,314 and $37,294.

United Kingdom

The National Health Service, or NHS, is the major organization employing paramedics in the United Kingdom. They separate paramedics into two groups, general paramedics and team leader paramedics. General paramedics make in the range of £21,478 and £27,901. Team paramedics, who have more skills and education and have more responsibility, are paid between £25,783 and £34,530.

Australia

Australia is a popular destination for those looking for a vacation destination as well as those who want to work abroad. The income of the Australian paramedic will depend on a variety of factors, much like it does in other countries. Depending primarily on the skill set a person has and their level of experience, an Australian paramedic will make anywhere between $45,000 and $90,000.

Singapore

Singapore is famous for both its public and private organizations hiring both native and international paramedics. Your skill set will have a large influence on what kind of income you will receive. The income level will also vary depending on what company or organization you choose to work for as well. The monthly salaries will vary between $1,826 and $2,480. The more precise skill set that you have, the more money you will get paid on a monthly basis.

New Zealand

The last country that we will be looking at is New Zealand. The largest factor in determining how much you will be paid as a paramedic in New Zealand is the level of education you have. The more you go to school, and obtain additional certifications, the more money you will be paid in either the public or private settings. The average beginning pay for paramedics is $40,000, and it can rise anywhere between $65,000 and $75,000.
