Tips for Staying Focused in Class

Have you ever found yourself in the middle of a class, daydreaming about what you will do over the weekend or your next break? Or perhaps you are completely in a different world, imagining scenarios that would never come to fruition in this life. Losing focus in class is a common problem among students. To help you stay on track, we have come up with a few tips to help you stay in tune, rather than tuning out.

Hydrate and Rest

Believe it or not, dehydration can contribute to a difficulty with concentrating in class. Keep a bottle of water in your bag to help keep yourself hydrated and to avoid a dose of sleepiness in the middle of a math lesson.

It is also important to ensure that you are getting enough rest at night. A lack of sleep can leave you feeling groggy and dreamy during lessons.

Cut Out Distractions

When students begin to lose focus during class, they often reach for their devices to check out what is happening on social media or who their last text was from. Do your best to eliminate distractions. If your phone is a distraction, turn it off during class time. It will reduce the chances of temptation to mentally check out of class to check into the web.

Take Notes

Even if you know the content that is being discussed during class, take detailed notes. By taking notes, you can follow along better. This forces you to concentrate on what is being said, keeping you engaged. Not only will it help you to stay focused during class but it has been proven that note taking can also be an effective tool in helping you to remember what is being said.
